iPhone 12 (Pro) reviews

Chris Velazco, Engadget:

These screens (and their ridiculous names) debuted in the 11 Pro and Pro Max last year, and if there’s any difference between the panels in the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, they’re not noticeable in everyday use.

The iPhone 11 Pro had a 5.8-inch screen, and after just a few days with the 12s, last year’s best small phone feels even smaller than ever.

Of course, exactly how fast these phones feel depends on where you’re coming from. If you already have an 11 or an 11 Pro, you’re probably not going to notice a huge difference in day-to-day use.

As usual, the standard wide camera produces the best looking images, with plenty of bright colors and rich detail. Honestly though, most of the photos I’ve taken don’t look that much better than what I got from last year’s 11 Pro. The biggest difference I noticed during daylight shoots is that the 12 and 12 Pro’s photos are just a touch warmer than the 11 Pro, but not enough to notice at a glance. I also expected night-shooting to be better since this sensor can capture more light. But, that only seems beneficial when you make it a point not to shoot in Night Mode. When you do, the differences mostly boil down to the way Apple uses neural networks to process those images.

Matthew Panzarino, Techcrunch:

When evaluating the cameras in the new models, It’s important to note that the iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 all share the exact same sensor and hardware for the Wide and Ultra Wide cameras. The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro have received an updated 7-element lens that Apple says assists it in edge sharpness.

This is a big jump forward for iPhone video quality, which was already excellent if you are willing to adjust and color grade your footage. If you shoot both phones straight up and hold them up side by side, the differences are pretty minimal.

Hello Internet

Brady Haran:

Since February 2020 the show has been on a break – or a HI-atus!

After six years, we’re just having a rest.

We remain good mates and are both healthy – there has been no drama or problem to worry about (but thank you for your emails and messages).

Ik mis dit.

How Facebook Works for Trump

Facebook wants users to spend as much time as possible on its site. To incentivize that, the company makes more engaging ads less expensive to run. So to lower their costs, marketers can either make ads that perform better or find audiences that respond well to the ads they’ve already created. Trump’s team has bet on the latter.

That sound you hear is not Joe Biden snoring

Frank Bruni in z’n nieuwsbrief voor The New York Times:

I have worried for decades about how thinly informed many voters are. My greater worry now is about how lavishly misinformed they are. The age of the internet is perilously suited to hoaxes and conspiracy theories and all other manner of hysteria and fakery.

How We Designed The Look Of Our 2020 Forecast

How do you present a forecast that communicates what we know but also what we don’t know and what might change?
